JAMES METCALF - IRONARTISTMy degree is in painting and drawing. After serving in the U.S. Navy and graduation from Arizona State University, I worked as a graphic designer, an art director and illustrator in the advertising industry. This helped me feed my family. I had the pleasure to work with or for both large and small firms. In my off time I would draw and paint. This feeds my soul.Now I concentrate my time and energy on creative pursuits. I am curious about everything. Art is a journey of discovery. I want to create art every day...or at least work on one each day. Inspiration comes from my morning hikes and the world around me...the landscape, the sunrise or sunset and the quiet stillness, flowers, details or looking at what other artists are creating. I take reference photos on my morning hikes to use back home in my studio. In the studio is where the exploration and yes, the struggle begins…fill the blank, white, canvas with something meaningful.
